Two years after our daughter’s birth I arrived on the same delivery suite as a trainee midwife

Where did you give birth or where was the birth you witnessed?
Cornwall, UK.

Can you describe where your/the birth was?
I planned a home birth but had to go to hospital, where my midwife literally changed my life forever.

Who was present at your/the birth?
My partner John and the wonderful Eddie.

Can you describe the experience of giving birth or watching the birth?
I was a student nurse when I had our first child, she is 23 years old now and has a brother. My midwife was one of those amazing human beings who have the capacity to inspire, enlighten and give a sense of safety, because of her I went onto train to be a midwife myself and I now volunteer all over the world for The Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine teaching obstetrics.

Two years after our daughter’s birth I arrived on the same delivery suite as a trainee midwife. I heard her voice through a wall my hairs stood up on end and a shiver radiated down my spine. To this day I don’t think she realises how wonderful she was and how she shaped my life forever.
