It was an emergency section

Where did you give birth or where was the birth you witnessed?
Douglas, Isle of Man.

Can you describe where your/the birth was?

I laboured on a ward, but when the staff realised my baby was distressed I went to theatre.

Who was present at your/the birth?
My ex-husband.

Can you describe the experience of giving birth or watching the birth?
It was an emergency section. After the spinal block was done they asked could I feel anything. Nothing! Then the anaesthetist said ‘you have a boy’ and I asked how he knew. They were holding my baby up, I didn’t even know they’d started the op!!
The drugs made me very ill; turns out I’m allergic to opiates. My boy was IVF; despite millions giving birth I felt so special to finally hold my own baby.
