Everything was different and new

Where did you give birth or where was the birth you witnessed?
Manchester UK

Can you describe where your/the birth was?

Indoors in a hospital room, safe because it was a hospital, scary because I was sometimes alone.

Who was present at your/the birth?
The dad, the midwife, one doctor one consultant in briefly.

Can you describe the experience of giving birth or watching the birth?
In the morning I was being monitored for the baby’s heartbeat and it kept coming and going, so they decided to induce the birth. I was frightened that something would go wrong but once it started it was exciting, like something new I had never done before. Everything was different and new.

I had no drugs although they thought I should, so it was painful and I screamed a lot. They had to break my waters because she wasn’t coming out. I don’t know why, I just agreed to everything once it started hurting. Because the birth was induced it was just 5-6 hours in labour, thank god! They said another 5 hours at 9.45 and I knew I couldn’t do that. She was born at 10.20.

I’d tried to prepare, reading everything and doing classes, talking to people, but all that went out the window.
